View a Couple of Roz's Past Fake JournalsRoz's 2009 fake journal takes place in an alternate Twin Cites, where disease has killed the human and bird populations. (It ends up being an upbeat tale of friendship.) Watch a

Roz,
I have been looking forward to April ever since I found this blog (last April!). Your tips here are great and I will use your advice to help me in my Fake Journal!
Cheers!

Roz, I just love this blog of yours just wanted to take the time to thank-you for having these post with this information. The avalon book what size is this. I'm teaching myselfto do journaling every day and need a smaller format to do this with. Is there a journal with lines and lots of pages? I know you make your books but have any idea where to begin do you have any videos on these steps Thank=you so and your works are beautiful.Linda
Hi, Roz -
I think I posted a comment yesterday, but for some reason it seems to have disappeared. I would love to participate in International Fake Journal Month!
Melinda Bilecki
Elizabeth and Melinda, thanks for joining in. I hope to hear how it goes for you.
Melinda, the comments are set to "moderate" and I don't always get to the comments each day so sometimes things take awhile—however, I didn't get a post from you so I'm glad you "reposted." Great to know you're going to join in.
Anonymous, I think you mean the Alvin Field book??? If so, it's 4.5 x 7 inches or so.
There are tons of lined books on the market. I don't know where to start. It sort of depends on what you want to do on the pages. Most of the lined pages I've seen don't take watercolor paint or other wet media very well.
You could read my post on my other blog about APICA notebooks
http://rozwoundup.typepad.com/roz_wound_up/2009/12/apica-notebooks-possibilities.html
that will give you some options.
Clairefontaine makes many wonderful lined and ruled and grided journals and I've actually painted on their pages (not the most ideal, but if you don't mind a lot of slickness and also buckling of the pages…)
Looks like you'll be experimenting this April!
I'd really like to try this one - I enjoyed yours from last year. - Barbara
Barbara, give it a go. It will be fun. I'm so glad you enjoyed my 2009 journal. For me it was fun because it ended up by accident having a certain narrative thread.
I wonder what will happen this year?
That's part of the fun.
Hi Roz, I too would like to join in. I just may have my author in mind-in my mind...Love your work and blogs! thanks for taking the time to share all your tips and fule our fun too!
Oh by the way- what do you write? Love the drawings/paintings but you also have a lot of writing. Just courious as I guess sketch more than i ever write. Hum, something for the fake too maybe?
Susan
Susan, so glad you are going to be joining in with International Fake Journal Month!
I don't understand the other question—"what do you write?" Do you mean on my journal pages? (about my life, things that happen to me, things I overhear when I'm out sketching, etc.) On the Fake Journal from 2009? (I've transcribed what was written on those pages in the appropriate posts so people don't have to try to read the dip pen scribbles.) In general? In my writing journals? (Again, about my life in the journals, but also stories, ideas for other projects, and of course, always, always lots and lots of handouts explaining things I teach, whole books worth of handouts). And then of course letters! And so it goes. Hope that gets to the answer you were looking for.
Have great fun with your fake journal. I look forward to seeing what you do.
Thanks, yes just wondering about your life journals. I sometimes write about what is happening at the time of the sketch but again, I don't write much. Thanks again. OH- Hubby brought 2 types of field journals home from work...I am thinking of using for fake.m We'll see what developes.
So glad you are doing this again. I did this last year and had such a good time. I loved the journal I used too so I may order another one this year.
I am really excited to do this too. I am going to look for my fake journal. I will probably blog my fake journal too. I think it would be really whimsical.
Jacqueline I'm so glad that you are going to join us this year. Be sure to let me know your website so I can see what you're up to when you start posting. I hope your fake journal is a whimsical and fun as you desire!
